Novos is short for Novocastrian, someone from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Formed by breakaway members from Northumbria Tropical Fish Society with Brain Risbridger from South Shields AS as Secretary. A full year of entertainment would be drawn up by Brian each January; Novos pulled in novices and members from other societies. Brian would produce information sheets on basic fish keeping and good maintenance to prevent going over the same ground with the new members. Each meeting, 30 minutes would be given over to aquatic questions.  would get to the meeting early and play darts with other members while the minutes were read and the novices question time took place, them we would go into watch the lecturer and slide show… 100 seats and all were full, standing room at the back only. The Club had a few successful shows at a community centre in Diana Street, as well as some very artistic tableaux, Hadrian’s wall at the Lambton Lion Park Festival (a hard place to get into if you did not have a car) Brain and Alan Spencer would form Caer Urfa A.S. while being active members of Novos. Robbie Kirkup
This tableaux from the 1978 Festival depicts the part of the Hadrian's Wall which protected the Geordies from the Jocks until 400 AD.

Novos kept up the educational theme for this tableaux at Crowtree Leisure centre. It is a model of a 'Netty', an outside toilet to those not familiar with the Geordie dialect. The graffiti, poking fun at judges, club members and others, proved to be very controversial and led to a falling out amongst the club's members. Everyone else enjoyed the humour, however.
