Additional Information:

Mount Pleasant began in the 1960s and survived the split of 1974, but ended around 1984, meetings were fortnightly on a Thursday in Mount Pleasant Social Club. M.P.A.S. had the top show team in the country, if not, a
close second to Castleford A.S. Open Show results would be published in the Aquarist & Pondkeeper each month. It was the golden era for exhibitors, Vic Davison, brother of Ronnie, had won the Champion of Champions at
British Aquarist Festival. Politics/change of direction split the club, as it did with
South Shields AS a little later, you had the Pot Hunters (no I was not one of them) who wanted the clubs expenses and time to be used
for attending shows and festivals, on the others side, hobbyists wanting social evenings, an open show and occasional bus trips to attract new members The society had a large membership of aquatic dealers, for instance,
George Bone of Little Pet Stores, Coatsworth Road, Gateshead, a shop still in existence today, as well as judges and speakers, When the club split it created the first show group in the area ‘Northumbria Show
Society’ after around 4 years they drifted apart and disbanded in 1978. RK
