Foresters AS after it closed. One of the first clubs to introduce American Darters into this country (imported by Brian Hannah).
GAS ran an open show every year, this is the schedule for the 1986 event. There were 34 classes, all
winners receiving a trophy, and trophy for best exhibitor and best in show.
Gateshead held shows in the Gateshead Leisure Centre Sports Hall, a large well lit venue. Half-way through or 2nd show, Brian Hannah pointed out that one of the judges had not moved for a very long time. On
investigating, he found the judge sound a sleep sitting upright; a quick nudge of the chair brought him back to life, and constant vigilance stopped this situation re-occurring. Paul Barrow
Shown below is GAS's tableau at the last BAF (1985) at Belle Vue, Manchester. It consisted of a wooden box covered in stone wallpaper. The two cheeky-chappies were junior members of the club, Keith & Craig Barrow.
