The Four Lane Ends Aquarist Society (or FLEAS for short) was formed in July 1993 by a group of local fishkeeping enthusiasts who saw the need to promote the interest in the hobby in the area. Initially starting up with seven founder members the Society has grown into an established unit recognised throughout the country. At our meetings we have general discussions, slides, and video shows on all aspects of fishkeeping. Regular quizzes and competitions help us to expand our knowledge and enjoyment of our chosen hobby. Our members posses amongst them a wealth of experience and information, with help and advice readily available. FLEAS are also a society that likes to see families involved in fishkeeping, especially the younger ones, as they are very important for the future of the aquatic hobby. We also would like to see them acquire the knowledge so that they can achieve the enjoyment and fulfillment that we all do. I was brought into the hobby by the wife about seven years ago with encouragement from my better half’s parents, and we have brought up our son to enjoy fishkeeping (he has his own tank and feeds his own fish!). My daughter, who isn’t two until July, is also showing a keen interest. We are affiliated to the Federation of British Aquatic Societies, and every year hold an Open Show & Auction where people can show off their fish, and sell off their unwanted fish and fishkeeping accessories at the auction. All visitors and potential members are made very welcome, with the emphasis being on enjoyment. So why not pop along and see us on one of the above dates. The first three meetings will cost you nothing so you have nothing to lose by paying us a visit.
