N.E.G.S. had another successful show last Sunday with 110 entries from afar a field as Falkirk in the north to Wrexham in the south.
All entries had to be
pre-book, which meant benching was done in a calm and quick manner. N.E.G.S. provided each exhibitor with identical plastic tanks, each filled with water the night before. Exhibitors brought their fish in buckets and
transferred them to their designated tanks in seconds. This method of benching should be witnessed by other show secretaries to so they can see benching does not have to be the disorganised melee quite often witnessed at
open shows. Fish were benched into 25 classes, depending
on the their designation in the Nationwide Standards. It was too early in the year for breeder's teams; so 3 classes
(19, 20 & 21) were added for pairs of fish bred by
the exhibitor the previous year (2007). Two classes were also put on for the less experience goldfish breeder: fish judged by colour alone and a Novice's class. The quality of fish was outstanding as were the colours. My
eye was immediately drawn to a large Jikin, which seemed to have a really good colour balance. The Shubunkin classes were filled with fish showing the full range of colours expected of them.
