This 3-day show was held at Lambton Castle, Co. Durham. Highlight of the show were tanks bursting resulting in water cascading down the main staircase, and stewards having to
spend two spooky night in the show hall.
The outside of the castle was decorated in bunting for the occasion. At the time, Lambton also had a Lion Park with dangerous animals living just behind the castle.
The main show hall was upstairs which meant it took a lot of effort to haul up some of the bigger tanks.
Here is Joe Nethersell (long time FBAS Council member) doing the combined FBAS/TTAA stand. The TTAA half of the stand went around the shows in the region for some time but seemed to disappear at the beginning of the 90s.
It was an even greater effort to install a tableau such as this. The 'A' class judge, Ron Atherton was one of the leading lights of
Hartlepool AS which put on this display.
The Newcastle Guppy and Livebearer Society had some of the leading experts on these type of fish and had a good reputation nationally. Doug & Jean Renton ran this club for many years and were responsible
for the introduction into this country species such as the now endangered, Ameca Splendens.
Stanley Club was one of the best clubs in the late 70s & early 80s. The quality of their breeding programmes and exceptional presentation of fish, gave them many Best Society awards at open shows.
