Caer Urfa's first open show in 1979 had the biggest entry ever seen in the TTAA region with over 800 fish on show. The show was
held in in the gym of Chuter Ede School, South Shields. This big entry posed no problem at the time as TTAA clubs could call on as many as 10 judges from the area.
All of the shows held at Chuter Ede had eye-level benching provided and erected by one of its members. Erecting the
scaffolding was a major task which took place on the Saturday, in fact CUAS needed the help of South Shields AS to complete this work. Some of the benching (seen in the background) was too high which necessitated one of the smaller judges having his own
steward with a box for him to stand on. Another amusing incident happened in 1982 when most of CUAS left the benching half-erected and went to the pub for lunch. South Shield's members turned up a few minutes later
and got sick of waiting for the rest of CUAS to return. The remaining members of CUAS , and SSAS decided to finish the
job themselves which was done before the rest of CUAS returned from the pub after closing time. There was an almighty row when the professional erecter saw the completed work, saying the scaffolding was not up to
his high standard. He tore down the work and re-erected it. When he left the scaffold benching was leaning over to one side and had to be straightened out by the less tired and emotional members.
